I see a case of (Practicum) Script as a journey; the system is ideal to put the mind to work

DR. ARMANDO BRICEÑO

Dr. Armando Briceño has been practicing Pediatrics for 33 years and is currently working in the private sector. When he graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Mexico, the specialty of neonatology was not so broad, so it continues to occupy a good part of his time. In his clinic, he sees a wide range of seasonal diseases, like respiratory and gastrointestinal ones, along with diseases specific to the tropical climate in Mérida (Yucatán), where he lives. Regarding the simulator, he appreciates the possibility to think and experience virtual cases that are close to real ones.

Experience allows us to reach a diagnosis just by observing the behavior of the patient, his cough, or the way he walks

DR. JORGE ANTONIO LÓPEZ GUTIÉRREZ

Attending physician in the Pediatric Emergency Service of Hospital Regional ISSSTE in Mérida, Yucatán (Mexico), Dr. José Antonio López Gutiérrez believes that the value of Practicum lies in the fact that it provides continuous knowledge update and a possibility to accumulate experience through the simulation. "I can’t diagnose efficiently what I don’t know," he says. This and, particularly, the implementation of thinking skills are areas covered by the simulator.

The first error is to not get training

DR. MIGUEL SEBASTIÁN AYÓN

Dr. Miguel Sebastián Ayón, a cardiovascular ultrasonographer, lives in Catamarca (Argentina) and works at the Sanatorio Junín. At the age of 31 years, he is dedicated to imaging patients with valvular disease and is a true passionate of cardiac physiology. "The understanding of how a simple organ acting as a pump handles everything has always caught my attention," he declares. His words define a professional with clear ideas. Here is another proof: "If the physician is in permanent training and has experience, he is the best option for the patient." In his case, "living in a country town in Argentina restricts his access to the bulk of knowledge (...), so having the possibility to participate in this activity (Practicum Script) is extremely interesting."

Medical jargons still have a lot of egocentricity

DR. RUBÉN FERNANDO ECHEVERRÍA CAMPODONICO

Dr. Rubén Fernando Echeverría Campodonico works in a northern rural area in Argentina, seeing mainly elderly patients in primary care and performing cardiac and vascular Doppler ultrasound. He chose Cardiology because of its high impact on these patients’ health, and speaks of medical error as an issue to be addressed first and foremost by recognizing its existence, and after that, using platforms such as Practicum Script, which allows experimentation in a simulated environment free of real consequences. He is 34 years old, lives in Corrientes, and this is his testimony ...

Testimonies

Congratulations for doing this type of continuing medical education course that leads to activate clinical reasoning. It is crucial especially when you do not attend public hospitals, where paraclinical costs are provided, and your are a first contact physician.

Dr. Juan Manuel Zaragoza Michel

Pediatrician at Clínica Médica Morealia in Michoacán de Ocampo (México)

These courses are amazing and over the years have had variants that have improved our learning capacity and help us a lot in our daily practice. I also thank the bibliography that Practicum provides for the differential diagnoses. I have taken all the courses. This has motivated me to take courses from the most prestigious universities in the world through Coursera and Edx.

Dr. José Luis Campos Pahua

Pediatrician in charge of his own practice in Zitácuaro (Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico

From the beginning it seemed to me like an excellent tool to keep in shape of pediatric medical knowledge. Its system is very pleasant and dynamic and makes you think of each answer by applying the knowledge you already acquired during your professional practice, as well as by supporting yourself in the comments of the teachers who direct the subject. I highly recommend it and I hope Practicum keeps expanding their experience in this way to all pediatric physicians in the country.

Dr. Alfredo Isas Vázquez

Pediatrician at Hospital San José in Monterrey (Mexico)

Excellent support for all those involved in the health of our patients. It encourages us to continue updating ourselves to be more accurate and confident in our daily medical practice. Thank you for this opportunity that we are taking advantage of every day to enrich our knowledge for the complete well-being of our population.

Dr. Salvador Caballero Dimas

It makes me rethink about my attitude and safety in daily medical practice.

Dr. José L. Suárez

Head of the Cardiology Internment Room of the Hospital General de Agudos

I consider it is a practical method, quick and simple to get feedback on our knowledge, since often time flies and we can't be up to date as we would like.

Dr. Rogelio Ochoa Aldana

Pediatrician, Sinaloa (Mexico)

It doesn't matter if I read that the experts' opinions are concordant with mine; in the end, what you get out of it is a lot of training. Remember that we physicians will always have discrepant opinions and the gray area in medicine is always very wide, so the most important thing is that day to day we keep our minds open to learning and knowing other physicians' or groups of physicians' opinions about particular cases.

Dr. Miguel Olivares Alcocer

Pediatrician, Guanajuato (Mexico)

I consider it is a very entertaining and interesting methodology; the comments of the experts help to consider the patients from a practical point of view. As the program progresses, the method of thinking in the diagnostic and therapeutic process changes.

Dr. Jacqueline Fierro Jara

Gastroenterologist pediatrician (Chile)

I really enjoyed this activity. It has helped me to reflect on innovative training strategies in medical education.

Dr. Carlos José Jaramillo

Professor in Cardiology. Medicine Faculty at Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín (Colombia)

Excellent continuous medical training tool, which promotes the flexibility of reasoning when facing the patient. It is an excellent exercise in clinical analysis.

Dr. Norma Isela Ramírez

Great. Even if I didn't reach 100 score points during the resolution of the cases, the objective is to learn. I appreciate the opportunity to complete this course, the cases are very well designed.

Dr. Ricardo Guraieb Ibarrola

Pediatrician at American British Cowdray Hospital in Distrito Federal (Mexico)

It is a challenge to think quickly and coherently. It speeds up your reasoning and links your theoretical and practical knowledge together. It is an excellent exercise. It is important for me to see how the more I practice, the quicker and better I respond

Dr. Ofelia R. Casas

Pediatrician and neonatologist. Argentina

Excellent clinical cases that bring you very close to the approach used in decision making in real pediatric practice. This is invaluable material that makes us think precisely in the situations we encounter in our clinical practice

Dr. Armando José Briceño

Pediatrician. Centro Médico Pensiones. Yucatán (México)

I think this is a good tool, especially because of what you learn from the different opinions, because medical practice is based on good clinical judgment as well as on knowledge

Dr. Carolina Guerrero Pando

Cardiologist. México
